Meet the talent - Nora Ng

Nora Ng's artwork is all about adding surreal elements to everyday things and places in Hong Kong. It’s her way of making the world a little more magical and unexpected.
We now have a number of talented artists, illustrators and designers whose prints and photography we sell at the Lion Rock Press. It's time to introduce you to some of the people behind the prints! Nora Ng (aka Drummer who Draws) is sharing a bit more about herself and the inspiration behind the work she creates.

About you

Hey there! I’m Nora Ng, and I’m an illustrator. I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Canada and moved back here 11 years ago. I was really into dragon boat racing for many years, and I was the drummer for my team. It was my teammates who first encouraged me to show off my artistic side to more people. That's how I came up with my artist name, DWD, short for Drummer Who Draws

I like to infuse a surreal, playful and wondrous vibe into all my illustrations to make people feel happy and excited when they see them.

Your Inspiration
I love taking inspiration from all sorts of things, like pop culture, nature, and my own life experiences. I mix it all up to create something totally unique and interesting.
My art is all about vivid colors and intricate details, created with delicate lines that add depth and texture. Since I live in Hong Kong, a lot of my work is inspired by the city's urban landscape and culture. I think there's something really special about this city, and I want to share that with everyone through my art.

Favourite thing to do or see in Hong Kong

Hiking up to High West for a sunset view is definitely one of my favourite things to do in Hong Kong. The panoramic view is absolutely stunning, with the Hong Kong skyline lit up in all its glory. So if you're ever in Hong Kong and looking for a fun and memorable way to spend an afternoon, I highly recommend hiking up to High West for a sunset view.

And finally, can you give us an idea of what you will be working on next?

Currently, I'm working on a travel-inspired art piece, and for my next project, I want to capture Hong Kong's reopening with a mixture of nature and cityscapes. Hong Kong's unique contrast between the natural world and the urban landscape provides an endless source of inspiration, and I want to create something that is visually stunning and thought-provoking. While I'm still in the early stages of planning, I'm excited to explore my creativity and see where it takes me. Ultimately, my goal is to create a piece that captures the essence of this amazing city and reflects its vibrant energy.
