The Repulse Bay Hotel- This piece pays tribute to the iconic Repulse Bay Hotel. Once a seaside sanctuary and vacation spot for Hong Kong’s elite, this historic colonial building stands as a testament to a bygone era, with graceful arches and terracotta roofs. Amidst lush surroundings, koi fish glide through ornamental ponds. During Chinese New Year, the hotel transforms: the dragon takes center stage, weaving through open spaces adorned with lanterns. And there it stands—the enigmatic building with a hole—the Dragon Gate. Legend whispers that if a dragon is able to glide through the hole, then it is appeased and all below are blessed. Beyond the hotel, the Twins beckon hikers, promising breathtaking views where ink meets memory. This drawing was created with fine liner and ink markers.
Artisit:
Jules (julesymaria) is a Brit/Aussie artist who has been lucky enough to live and work in Hong Kong for many years. As part of herseries 'Circle City Scapes', she has focussed on drawing her favourite spots of Hong Kong. She stitch together the old and the new as well as the traditional and the modern, celebrating Hong Kong and all it has to offer. Each piece celebrates the diverse communities which coexist in this metropoulos, highlighting the rich pockets of life which we all savour. Each drawing takes about 30 hours to complete, and is created using Copic fineliners and alcohol ink markers.
