China is home to some of the world’s most fascinating and diverse venomous snakes — yet until now, there hasn’t been a modern English-language guide to help people explore this amazing region.
The most comprehensive English-language reference on China’s venomous snakes in nearly a century. Featuring 131 species, 776 pages, and over 1,500 photographs, this authoritative volume brings together decades of research, fieldwork, and visual documentation.
Whether you’re a nature lover, a traveler, a student, researcher, or simply curious about the reptiles that share our planet, this book offers an exciting, approachable look at these remarkable animals, examines the vital roles they play in China’s ecosystems, and sets a new standard for modern herpetological scholarship in the region.
Kevin Messenger is a professor of Zoology at Nanjing Forestry University in Nanjing, China. He is originally from the US and has been visiting China for nearly 20 years, with his career in China starting around 2017.
