BOOK: City of Lights, Hong Kong's Neon Heritage

Blue Lotus Gallery presents City of Lights, a newly published volume by blue lotus editions featuring the photography of Keith Macgregor. The book brings together selected works from Macgregor’s extensive archive, captured throughout the 1990s and 2000s, immersing viewers in Hong Kong after dark — a city ablaze with colour, reflection, and electric atmosphere.

Drawn directly from the publication, selected photographs will be presented in a major accompanying exhibition at the gallery. Together, the book and exhibition spotlight Macgregor’s enduring engagement with Hong Kong’s neon streetscapes.

Yet this vibrant scene is steadily disappearing. As neon signs are dismantled and familiar streetscapes fade, City of Lights becomes more than a celebration; it is a vital archive. The publication preserves a visual culture that once shaped Hong Kong’s identity after dark, safeguarding memories that are otherwise slipping away.
